I was trying to find a list of plant material, but I didn't see one. Does anybody know what the shrubs in the background are? The ones that look like they are on fire?

I don't know what those bushes are, but they do look like flames!
ReplyDeleteThere is a dogwood (Cornus) called Arctic Fire. If that's not it, it's very similar. I think part of what makes that photo so spectacular is the lighting. It was probably taken close to sunset, when the light was almost horizontal.
ReplyDeleteThose are probably some sort of dogwood. There are yellow and red stemmed varieties.
ReplyDeleteThey are grown for their stems and to get the best color, you take them down to right above the ground every spring.
Red twig dogwood, to get you started...
I went scrolling forever to find this entry, but she doesn't have a variety listed. Like your pic, it's in somebody else's garden.

ReplyDeleteJen, both of your links worked for me. I spent a bit of time finding the post, too. But it was fun checking out a new blog, although it looks like she no longer posts to it.
I also looked up Kathy's 'Artic Fire'. I found it very interesting. It's a new compact selection of the ever popular Baileyi’ red stem dogwood. Dark red winter twigs and a more compact, non-suckering habit. It gets only 4 feet tall and has more branches, thus more red color.
I think I would like some of these.
