Fabric Carrots for Easter Decor

This year I made fabric carrots and had so much fun with them!
I put them on top of my largest hutch with a few wooden bunnies that my late uncle made.
I added a few real eggs that I decorated at least 25 years ago. It amazes me that they have lasted this long. I break a few each year, but luckily I made dozens of them.
I made lots of bunnies that I have scattered around.
This year I bought some new pillow covers and I thrifted that cake stand a few ago. It worked perfectly for the bunny vignette.
Even though I am not hosting an Easter event, I have still been enjoying these two rooms for the past weeks. I just do it for Hubs and myself and now to share with anyone who stumbles across my blog.

The Rest of My Easter Decorations for 2013

The only Easter decorating I did this year was in the dining room.  I showed you my chair backs a few posts down. Today I will show you the rest of the dining room.

Bunnies and carrots on top of this cabinet.

A white fenced real egg Easter tree on top of this curio cabinet.

The cabinet with the bunnies on top has quite a few real eggs inside it.
Here is a cluster of three green eggs.

 Look at these spikes!
I like the spike decorations and put them a number of eggs. Here is another one:

It almost looks like a medieval weapon!

This old sugar shell has a much less sinister-looking egg tucked inside:

This egg reminds me of  a ballerina.
I decorated this room when I was contemplating having an Easter brunch at my home.  Then I decided that I did not feel like doing all that work.  So nobody but my blogland friends will actually see it. :)

Vase of Real Eggs and Ornamental Grass

I did a bit of spring/Easter decorating today.  I removed my winter burgundy sofa covers to reveal the lighter spring/summer color palette.  Then I replaced the pine cones in my sled coffee table with Romantic Home magazines with covers in colors to coordinate with the sofa and love seat.
I also replaced the pine cones from the vase of ornamental grass heads with real eggs that I decoupaged years ago.

I am liking the lighter look.  It's about 40 degrees and sunny today...feels like spring is in the air....kind of nice..........

My Easter Basket

Not your typical Easter basket, is it? LOL. I loved it and I won $29. Did you notice DH used my sled coffee table for the basket? Very clever of him.

He also came home yesterday with two new half whiskey barrels for me.
I have been asking him to pick up two more. I want to leave them empty and just fill them with the plastic containers I overwinter. I think I can fit at least five of them in each barrel. In the fall, I will just lift them back out and put them in their winter home. I am going for a less cluttered look on the deck this year.

We have an 11:00 a.m. Easter potluck brunch to go to. I am making the blueberry french toast casserole that I made last year. Patti from Osage Bluff sent me the recipe--thanks again, Patti!

There is even a third cup of pure maple syrup in it. The fake stuff just does not compare.

It is very delish with cream cheese and blueberries throughout. It sit overnight in the refrigerator so the bread can absorb all the eggs.  Once I bake it, it gets topped with a thickened layer of blueberries.

You can find the recipe all over the net. Just search for "blueberry french toast" recipe.

I hope everyone has a great Easter today!

Easter Dessert Table

I showed you the Easter egg shelf, but I did not show you what was under it.

I redid my Valentine's Day table and it is now ready for the next holiday.  I removed the burlap and  layered the table in fabric --

you may recognize that purple fabric as it's what I used for the dining room tablecloth for Valentine's Day. I found some yellow fabric in my stash and used that to tie in the yellow egg shelf color.  I pinned on a length of twine to make the bunny bunting across the front.
Of course, most of you know I made that purple/pink quilted table runner that hangs down the center.  There are two of those runners. The second goes across the top of the table.  As I post this, I realize that I made everything on this table, except for the four wooden hinged bunnies in the back and the carrot fence in front of them.  I even made the big wooden Mama bunny on the side.  I think it's time to repaint her face. I may do that one of these days....then again, maybe not.

If I end up having an Easter dinner, then this table can be the dessert table.  I have left a space on the top to hold a few desserts.

I have been playing with a table to go with the new dining room chair covers (not necessarily an Easter table, though it could be with a few changes).  It's a bit more difficult than I thought it would be.

After trying two or three different colors of plates and tablecloths, I came up with these colors:
I am semi-pleased and will continue on some other day.  I need to buy some floating candles for the long row of colored water holders.....OR... my other idea is to buy white daisies and put them in the colored water. They will take on the color of the water. That would be pretty cute,  don't you think?

Do You Think Easter on a Weekend Like This?

Despite the snow, I had Easter on my mind all weekend.

I was eager to transform that  old green shelf I showed you a few days ago.

I primed it earlier in the week.
Saturday morning we were snowed in so I could not get out to buy paint.  Instead I shopped the basement to find a color.  I had a tiny amount of a very bright yellow. It was way too bright, so I mixed in a couple  cups of the white primer until I had a workable yellow color.
Yes, I painted it right in the family room  with just a blanket thrown over the carpet. That's living dangerously when you're as sloppy a painter as I am!

This morning DH helped me screw in my eye hooks (I think that's what they are) and then I went to work bringing my vision to life.

Here's a reminder of what I started with:

and now I have this:

It's an Easter egg display shelf!  I thought it would be a new way to display some of the real eggs I decorated over twenty years ago.  I am getting tired of doing big egg trees.

I made this blue jean bunny a long time ago, too and I still love her all decked out in her pink bandana holiday skirt.
she has a nest of eggs on the top of her hat.

I put some Easter grass in the sled coffee table and added some of my quilt-themed decorated eggs.
I think the grass is too green, so I am probably going to switch it out to purple and pink.   I also removed the red sofa slipcovers and am back to pastels.

I have enjoyed the weekend at home.  I have cooked/baked a bit and did a tiny bit of cleaning.  I still have a major  mess with the Easter decorations.  I may putter around a bit more with them today.

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend, too.

Overwintering Containers & Easter 2012

Remember the big french urns I  bought last year and placed on each side of my garage door?

No?

Well, here's a reminder:

I decided to try to save them by putting the full containers in my unheated garage for the winter.  We have had an extremely mild winter and I think the garage temperature has remained in the mid to low 30's except for a day or two when it could have gone a tad lower. I park my car next to these urns every day and  I think they look promising for 2012.

Even the asparagus fern is still green.   I have never been able to over winter fountain grass, but I am hopeful that this will be my year of success.

I am way less hopeful for my cordayline plant.  Until February it looked great--nice reddish purple and healthy.  In the beginning of February, I noticed it beginning to change to a greenish color. It feels crispy....like dead....I am so disappointed!
There are still a few spots near the trunk that are purple and feel alive.  Do any of you have experience with overwintering these?  It is possible that its still alive and it will grow new foliage from the trunk?
I just hate to lose it as I cannot buy one this size in my small town.

I wanted to plant different colors of coleus around it for 2012.   I googled coleus and I just realized that of the gazillions of varieties there are, I like the ones that lean toward a single color the best. Like these:

It would be wonderful if my Cordayline would survive so I can try out my idea with 3 or 4 coleus around it.   Then again, it is not likely that I will be able to buy any of these colors.  We usually only get the Walmart varieties, which are nothing like these.

I have also been thinking of Easter. It's only about six weeks away, you know.  I am thinking of hosting an Easter brunch, so I need to figure out my decorations.  I looked up a couple of previous year's tables to see what I have on hand as I tend to forget what I already own.
I think my new dining room chair covers will be perfect for Easter.  I have finished four of them and just need to do the two end chairs.  I found a fabric to add to it so that I will have enough of the pastel rope fabric I showed you a few days ago.

I also have an idea for this wooden wall shelf that has been living in the basement for a few years.

I need to paint it and add some hardware, etc.  If I actually end up using it, I will show it to you at a later date.

Until next time, take care.

Happy Easter Everyone

I am not going to be home for Easter this year. Since I don't have an Easter table to show you, I thought I'd show the one from last year (those who don't ready my tablescaping blog probably have not seen it).

I used Whoppers on my tablescape.

The soft pink of the candy worked well with the table.

I've incorporated a lot of my hobbies in this table, like the wooden bunny I painted purple to match the quilted table runners that I made. I also painted one chocolate brown because it reminds me of all those milk chocolate rabbits I used to get for Easter.
There are lots of real eggs on this table that I colored and decoupaged. These little boy bunnies hold eggs with quilt patterns. A blue jean bunny wearing a pink bandanna skirt sits atop the back chair.
I made the chair back toppers in the log cabin quilt block design with pink bunnies in the middle.

I've had these bunny napkin rings for quite some time. I am always happy to see them again because they are just so darn cute!
The centerpiece is my big hurricane candle holder filled with Easter grass and a small egg tree.

I miss having a decorated Easter table this year!

I hope you all enjoy your holiday weekend.
