Can't Wait to Get Back to Work Tomorrow

so I can rest!

Oh, my, what an exhausting day I've had. I worked outside for hours (I can't be wasting a "vacation" day relaxing) and got tons accomplished.

One of the things I did was finish removing the obedient plant from this area.

Remember I hit it with RoundUP a couple of weeks ago? Well, I missed a lot of it, so I ended up digging the rest out. Then I threw in Zinnia seeds - all red and yellow.

I am sure the Obedient plant will be making an appearance for years to come as I did not get every little piece of the root (it's nearly impossible to do). At least most of it is gone.

Who among my loyal readers is a weed expert?

I admit to knowing very little about weeds. I know which of my plants are weeds, but I rarely know which weed -- I spend too much time pulling them and have no time left to investigate what they are! LOL

Here is a big weed I pull every year

And here is the root of the weed

Does anyone know what it is?

How about this ligularia (the rocket) - Does anyone know what might be eating it? Slugs, perhaps?

  1. Geez, that's a weed? When I saw this I thought of horseradish for some reason.

  2. I'm not an expert on weeds either, like you just know that they are weeds lol I discovered a weed had decided to invade my flowerbeds this year and found out it's called Gout Weed...yesterday I pulled it all out and couldn't get over the roots on it! I was told I'll have trouble getting rid of it because the roots get all over the place and it's hard to get it all. Oh joy!

  3. Pea, I have gout weed (also called bishop's weed). It's actually sold in garden centers as a ground cover. If you have much of it, the only way to get rid of it is with a weed killer, because every little piece of the root will grow.

I actually like it and have some areas where I have kept it.

Dianne, must be that big root that makes you think of horseradish.

  4. I don't know a thing about weeds but can relate in the fact that you were glad to get back to work....many a time when I worked I would have those kinds of days and have had a few lately that I wish I had a job to go to...lol!!

  5. Now that's one huge root on that weed. Holy cow. I'm not sure what it is but could it be horseradish as dianne mentioned? I just pulled one like that out of my mom's garden.

Obedient plant: I hear ya. I've got to pull mine out too. It's crowding everything good in the same bed. Arg!

I love seeing what's going on in your garden. We've got the same climate (give or take) and problem plants.

  6. I'm inclined to say the weed is a relative of evening primrose . . . Oenothera genus. Has one ever escaped your eagle eye and bloomed? Yellow flowers? Birds love the seeds so you could have it even if you never let it bloom, if it blooms nearby.

  7. I'm no big expert on weeds either, and it's hard to figure out the size of the leaves, but could it be comfrey? If you google comfrey images you might be able to tell.

  8. It looks like comfrey or maybe centaura.

  9. How ironic that it is called obedient plant and doesn't mind it's manners. I was going to plant some, now I know to just skip it.
