Thank you, Dianne. I don't want any more trees to decorate! I do 2 or 3 in my home and 5 or 6 at work. I have been doing the trees at the hotel for the past 19 years. It was one of those "do it one year and your stuck for life" jobs. I used to love doing them all, but the past five years or so I have been getting tired of it and not feeling so creative. I keep trying to pass the job on to someone else, but no luck yet.
Wow! That's a lot of trees to have to decorate. I can give you ideas of what I've seen at Longwood and they tend to lean toward the natural look like you do. I've seen gourds and seed pods, seashells, a peacock theme, grapes and vines, well you get the picture. I'd have to look at my photo cd disk for other trees I've seen. And I have tons of Christmas craft books too. Don't rule out hydrangeas if you have access to any. They fill in a ton of space. Recycling ideas is good too.
Great trees. Last year I was feeling blue and not into doing a tree so all I put on where white lights. gold bulbs and gold ribbon. Funny thing is it was my favorite one.
Crazygramma, sometimes the simple ones do turn out to be the best. I have been into the white/gold theme lately myself.
Dianne, Last year I used hydrangeas (silk) and gold grapes on the hotel lobby tree. You are right that they work beautifully because they are large and take up much space.
I have done fruit themes, denim theme, poiensiettas, -- you name it and I have probably done it. One year I even used tons of painted weeds--I would leave work, pass a field of weeds and stop the car and run out (in my heels) and cut down weeds,& take them home & paint them. (I was way more energetic back then -- lol). I have even used crushed brown paper bags for filler. I am BIG on fillers for Christmas trees! Any ideas you or anyone has are appreciated, so bring them on!
I appreciate you taking the time and effort to leave a comment. I will try to answer any questions you have. Please note due to Blogger changing word verification so almost nobody can read it, I have had to change to no word verification and only allow registered users to comment.
I am so glad you stopped by to visit my garden. I garden in lower northern Michigan (zone 5) in far less than ideal conditions. I have too many pine trees, too much shade, too many rocks, herds of hosta-munching deer and rabbits who think my lilly buds are gourmet appetizers. I am by no means an expert in horticulture or garden design--just an amateur with a shovel and a passion. My garden changes daily during the summer and I will be updating frequently.
During the winter months, I blog about my favorite cold-weather hobby--quilting and just my everyday musings.
I hope you enjoy your visit, and that you will come back soon.

Absolutely gorgeous! Move to Kennett Square, PA and I bet they would hire you at Longwood Gardens to decorate their Christmas trees! ; )
