The Table is Set, the Menu is Done

and nobody is coming for dinner.

Yes, I have the table set, the menu ready, and I am NOT even cooking!

I like to prepare far in advance, so I made this menu about three weeks ago when I thought I would be hosting the Easter dinner. As it turns out we are going to my MIL's for dinner. Every other year she has had an early brunch, so I assumed I would go there, then come home and cook dinner for my family later in the day.

It's a shame that I won't be using that cute menu frame.

I still need to make something to take and am debating whether to make the coconut lemon cake. It's a three layer concoction--homemade cake with homemade lemon curd between the layers and homemade coconut frosting. At the moment it seems like too much work. There will be way too much food (there is every year) and we all end up bringing home most of what we took....so I am not inclined to work that hard on something that will not get eaten. I may opt for something easier.

I will be removing the Easter table setting today since I won't be needng it tomorrow. I am eager to try out one of my new table runners...probably the yellow/brown one. Now if only I can find some pussy willows and forsythia for a centerpiece. I saw that on Jean's blog and just loved the combination.

Is everybody busy cooking today?

  1. Zoey, I got the huge bunches of forsythia at Joann's for 50% off of 9.99. One bunch minus 1 branch is on the watering can. I grew the pussy willows but they are from last year. We had to cut the tree down because it was infested with borers. Can't wait to see the table set! Have a great day and enjoy having someone else do the work!

  2. The menu sure looks good but hey...take a holiday from cooking if you can!
Make a simple dessert I say although that layered lemon, coconut cake sounds so yummy!
    Happy Easter!

  3. Jean, I thought those looked like the ones I had seen in Joanne's. I will have to see if my store still has them.

Betty, I did make a simple one - no bake cheesecake with a cookie crust. I am thawing blueberries as I write to make a topping. Actually I made two desserts today. The other is a banana pineapple cake roll. I'm not thinking it's going to be that great, so I made the cheesecake as a back up......so really, it was more work than the cake would have been! LOL

  4. Hi Zoey,
Your menu sounds terrific. I know that lemon coconut cake would be a hit here, but it does sound like a lot of work. We're hosting brunch and then off to my Dads' for dinner.
They always have tons of food too.
    Happy Easter.

  5. Happy Easter Zoey and family! The sun is shining bright here and I only have to throw together a potato dish and pineapple side to take to my uncle's house. Bri bought me breakfast.
I didn't realize my cake looked like a King's cake until you mentioned it. I wanted to hide some of those dark crumbs and the sugar helped a lot.

  6. Too bad you didn't get to make that delicious meal, but I hope you enjoyed a more relaxing time since you didn't have to do all that work. I like the sound of that lemon curd filling and coconut frosting. Yum!
I hope you had a very happy Easter with your family.
It's still cold here too, but we had bright sunshine today.
