Scrap that Idea

I spent most of last evening working on six log cabin blocks for the rose quilt border. I got up at 5:30 a.m. and immediately started working on them again. By 6:30 a.m. I had decided they just didn't work.

Better to scrap the idea after only a few hours work than to continue and not be happy with the finished product. While I was making these, I watched Paula Dean's talk show. If my hands weren't continously busy under the sewing machine, I would have clicked the remote to another channel. That woman has become totally obnoxious, loud and downright vulgar. I counted at least four blatant sexual references. Now I am no prude--when the time is right I can talk a pretty good line of trash myself--
but a cooking show is just not the place! What a change her show has made since she got such an elevated sense of self worth.

Well, enough of that. Let's get back to qultin'!

After only a few minutes considering what to do in place of the rejected log cabin border, the ideal solution appeared. It would take no work at all because I already had all the blocks sewn. Hmmmmmm, would they really work? I grabbed them and started putting them all around the center.

Voila! I can't believe how perfect it is! I am one happy camper this morning.

  1. Beautiful solution. Sometimes, if you just let your subconscious work on a problem, the next morning, you find the solution is on the top of your mind.

  2. It works very well, Zoey.

I agree with you about Paula Dean. But, it is all those phoney you all's that bother me.

  3. Wow!!! Your idea panned out-lovely! Think you can use your log cabins around the edge of this or alternate a solid color with a log cabin? Hey, I'm thinking like a quilter and I don't quilt. ; ) (yet)
I guess you weren't watching 'Paula's Party'? I do like that one. I think 'ya all' is old. Did you know her husband is 9 yrs younger than her? My one friend and her husband have that 9 yr thing going-not too bad, but you have to keep up with that younger man!

  4. You crack me up, Zoey!
I can just see you, working away, talking to yourself about how uppity Paula Deen has gotten!!
I knew she was a little tart when she would appear on Emeril's show. She made some not so subtle sexual references that made him blush!
I don't need that kinda stuff, either. If I did, I would watch Jerry Springer or something!

  5. Why don't you try a border now, maybe blue or one of the reds. Then add the log cabin blocks. That way it will save you from creating another quilt from the log cabin blocks. LOL

  7. Isn't it amazing how different it looks with each border? I like them both, but if the blue rose blocks work, I like that best! ;)
Actually, I think it looks really cool. What will you use the log cabin blocks for? I think they're very pretty also.

Re Paula Deen - sometimes I'm quite happy that we don't have cable.

  8. You aced that quilt, Zoey, it's the perfect solution and it looks wonderful. You really get the feel of long-stemmed roses this way.

  9. Giddy, you are so right! Very often if I wait until morning the solution just pops up.

Samdy, Thank you and I hear you about PD. Can you believe she said "y'all" four times in two sentences? I kid you not.

Dianne, Ir was Paula's Parry that I was watching! It was the one that had that famous ice skater. Darn! I can't remember her name right now.

LOL Sissy, "Little tart" -- I love that.

Osagebluff, I was thinking about doing just that.

Rosehaven, Thank you so much for the complimentary comment.

Kris, I think I will make a table runner out of the log cabins--or just save them for a different quilt--or maybe use them in a corner block. You (and I) never know where they may end up!

    lostroses, Thank you!
