Flowers in Your Salad?
To me it is a total turnoff.
I just can't bring myself to munch on a flower.
I've tried to eat chive flowers in my salad, but had to push them aside and leave them on the rim of the salad plate.
For me,flowers belong in the center of the table or maybe as a garnish on the side, but not in my food.
Let the Basting Begin!

I am using my dining room table to baste this big one -- it's about 105 x
105 inches (king size).
It's been a while since I've finished one this big.

I agree. I can't do it either.
ReplyDeleteI actually like nasturiums. Sugared rose petals are pretty on cakes too. I wouldn't eat a chive flower though. I can't remember if I've tried a zucchini blossom (they make them stuffed), but I bet they are good.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how our minds work? Why is it more natural to stick flowers in a vase on the table and ultimately watch them die than it is to eat them for food. After all, we eat the buds of flowers (brocolli) and the seed pods (peas and beans), so why not the flowers?
ReplyDeleteI have on very rare occasions added a few small pansies or calendula petals to a salad just for colour, but I don't do it often and I don't really think about flowers as part of our regular food supply.
Just blog hopping. I admire your garden.. so beautiful and big. I haven't tried eating salad with flowers but I've heard it from other people. Also I saw your spring flowers has already sprung. Good Job!
ReplyDeleteViolets and rose petals are tasty. The darker nasturtiums have a peppery bite, so try yellow. I'll have to try a chive flower someday. And I hear lavender is pretty tasty too. It would be a lot easier to get your daily dose of colored veggies if you could count flowers;)
ReplyDeleteI can eat flowers, but I don't think I could eat that salad. There is just too much color in it.
