My last phlox to bloom is the white, Mt. Fujiyama. I purchased it in 1990 from Spring Hill. I only know this because I still have the bag it came in!
I like it because it is a bright white with nice sized heads.
I am getting down to very few flowers left to bloom!
Last Sunday we had a family picnic and I made these lemon bars:
Lemon Bars
Crust
2 cups flour
2 sticks margarine or butter, melted
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Filling
6 eggs, beaten
3 cups granulated sugar
1/4 + 1/8 tsp salt
1/8 + 1/4 cup flour
9 Tbsp lemon juice –
(I used 3 large lemons – also used the zest)
Topping
powdered sugar
Combine the 3 crust ingredients in a mixer until well blended and press into a 9 X 13 pan.
Bake at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes
remove from oven. Combine the filling ingredients with the mixer and pour over top of the baked crust.
Return to oven and bake for an additional 25 minutes at 350. Remove from oven and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cool and cut into squares.
These bars have a butter-cookie crust and a tart sweet richness. They are delicious.
Hi Zoey, oh I love that phlox-- and you still have the bag it came in, WOW, are you organized! My DH always wanted me to plant an all-white garden, I bet it's lovely at night, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm adding your recipe to my stash, family reunion coming up, now I have a dish to pass. Thank you!
Oh, Zoey, yummy! They look so good and I love lemon. May have to try that recipe.
ReplyDeleteYour white phlox is so pretty. Look how it just brightens up that bed.
Have a wonderful weekend!
I love that Phlox, Zoey, I'm totally envious as I've decided that I simply MUST have phlox in my garden next year. I avoided them last year as I was paranoid they'd get Powdery Mildew, but now that I see them in gardens around town and yours here, I know I need them...they fill such a crucial role at this point in the summer!
ReplyDeleteOh My God! I love a good lemon bar with a cup of good black coffee!!!
ReplyDeleteAhh Zoey..you said lemon bar and I forgot all about the flowers..I love lemon anything and everything..I'll be trying this recipe!
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of white flowers. I have a book from years ago about garden themes and they suggest a moon garden as white is so visual at night.
ReplyDeleteI have to make a dessert for next weekend, so this is a great idea! A big hit all the time.
