Every winter I go to blogs and see their beautiful amaryllis in bloom and I am always sorry that I did not buy a bulb in the fall.
So last Saturday when I saw this pink amaryllis, I bought it.
I was surprised to find this little round disk. The directions said to put it in 3 cups of water and let it sit for 15 minutes.
It poofed right up.
Then I stirred it and stuffed it around the flower bulb.
I hate ugly plastic pots, so I wrapped a piece of ....................guess what..........Burlap ...... around it!
I secured the burlap with two rubber bands and then tied a piece of pink fabric to hide the rubber bands (though I see I was not all that successful hiding them). Now all I have to do wait 4 to 8 weeks for beautiful blooms.
Here is what I hate about daylight savings time:
5:30 p.m. and poor DH is grilling in the dark.
Let the Basting Begin!

I am using my dining room table to baste this big one -- it's about 105 x
105 inches (king size).
It's been a while since I've finished one this big.

Good luck with your Amaryllis. I've never grown one myself although they are quite pretty.

Cher,
ReplyDeleteI have grown them before. The first year is almost guaranteed to produce a flower or two. Some people can save them and get blooms in future years, but so far I have never been able to do that. Maybe next year, who knows!
Hubby looks like he could use a burlap coat-LOL!!
ReplyDeleteJust kidding. It's ridiculous how dark it is now at 5:30. I hate it. I'm yawning and ready for bed by 8!
Sue,
ReplyDeleteI am lucky if I can make it to 8:00 p.m.!
I got this variety as a gift one year, just lovely!

I know I can't stand it being dark so early...makes me want to hybernate...
ReplyDeleteZoey, I hope you get beautiful blooms..you're on a burlap theme, love it!!
ReplyDeleteIf it's any consolation..Dec 22 the days start to get longer again:)
That's such a pretty one to start out with. It will look especially pretty with your color scheme.

I will be waiting to see your new blooms! And I love that your hubby is out manning up at the grill after dark! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWait, he does the shopping and the cooking???
ReplyDeleteI see you are making great use of your burlap, now the container matches the lamp...!
Hi Zoey, I'll be waiting to see pictures of your beautiful Amaryllis in bloom! I've never grown them. I should try it sometime.

I usually get an amaryllis every year. They are so gorgeous. I wish I could figure out how to get the bulbs to re-bloom the next year.
ReplyDeleteStill grilling, huh?
Good luck on the Amaryllis, I do hope it will be the color on the package. I believe your cordyline should be fine...I want to read "The Help" let us know what you think of it. My husband has been grilling in the dark too, sigh.
ReplyDeleteOh Zoey, I hope it is a real Apple blossom bloom because I want to see what it looks like in bloom. I have bought two over two years that said Apple blossom on the box and they always end up being the wrong mixed up bulbs.LOL! IT would be nice to see someone get the real bulb and bloom.
ReplyDeleteYup, I've been grilling in the dark as well! You need to get your hubby one of those head lights...made like a strap that fits around the head with a light on it! lol
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't get over how much it pouffed up when put in the water, that's so neat. Good luck in growing the Amaryllis:-) xoxo
Good work, Zoey. Burlap is a 'natural' hug for your amaryllis! So too hate dark at 5:30 but such if life!
