I thought the black-eyed Susans and the Scaevola made a nice combo.
Last night I made some real popcorn (not the microwave stuff). Remember putting oil in pan and popping it on the stove, then melting real butter to drizzle over top? How long has it been since you've made popcorn like that?
Tea, your hubby must be a popcorn connoisseur to go to all that trouble all the time.
Karen, the scaevola is actually planted in a chair and is hanging down into the BES below it. If planted in the ground, it would not be tall enough to be effective, so you would have to find something similar, but tall. Let me know if find something. The blue/purple salvia would work if it's a variety that grows about three feet tall.
Zoey, have you seen Angelonia? It has the same purple shade as the Fan flower, (scaevola), but has the form of snapdragon. It starts off kinda tall and by the end of the summer has a rambling, ranging habit. It does well in the full sun and doesn't mind heat or humidity. It was one that flowered all summer long in Memphis! That popcorn made me want to lick the screen!
Sissy, I checked it out and it would be a close alternative. I am so glad you stopped by to visit my garden. I garden in lower northern Michigan (zone 5) in far less than ideal conditions. I have too many pine trees, too much shade, too many rocks, herds of hosta-munching deer and rabbits who think my lilly buds are gourmet appetizers. I am by no means an expert in horticulture or garden design--just an amateur with a shovel and a passion. My garden changes daily during the summer and I will be updating frequently.
During the winter months, I blog about my favorite cold-weather hobby--quilting and just my everyday musings.
I hope you enjoy your visit, and that you will come back soon.

ReplyDeleteYour arrangements are beautiful.

Oh, I am loving that purple and yellow combination. I have to find something like that to plant around my rudbeckias. You've inspired me, Zoey!

I have never heard of Angelonia, but I will certainly be off to google it.
Thanks for the suggestion.

wow, that's a long url!
This is the way my husband makes popcorn...he only eats the microwavable popcorn if he's out of the old fashioned kind.
ReplyDeleteI, on the other hand, prefer making it in the microwave.
