Isn't she lovely?
Too bad you can't even see the flower unless you take a picture in macro mode! Because I like to show my readers the truth, here she is blooming along the garden path:
I wish someone had shown me this before I plunked out the cash for 11 of these from Breck's (to add insult to injury, of the 11, only six have survived). I had no idea the flower would be so tiny, you can barely see it with the naked eye. I am thinking of moving these to the whiskey barrels on the deck where I can better appreciate their delicate beauty.
Remember this Hyacinth bean vine on my arbor?
Well, it produced a bloom!
I see more flower buds, too. I am happy about that, but I really expected this vine to completely cover the arbor and have dozens of purple flowers turning into long purple beans by September. It is a disappointment, but at least a seed or two from the packet took and I did get a flower (unlike the other packets of seeds I ordered from this company and nothing came up). I take success in any form I can find it! :)
It was pretty cool this morning and I loved it! I can't wait to do some fall baking like I did last year:
pumpkin bread, hand held apple pies, English muffin bread, cookies.................. don't you just love autumn?

At the moment, I have no idea what will become of these quilt blocks I have
been making for the past couple of weeks. I guess they will remain in this
bin...

No doubt-Autumn is the BEST. I'm looking forward to baking and just hunkering in and enjoying the INSIDE of the house for a change.
ReplyDeleteYou're lucky you got a bloom off the Hyacinth bean. I tried them last year--and it frosted the first week of September before any blooms opened. I think it's more for "southern" climates....
The blooms are lovely on Toad Lilies but I am cracking up over it in the path. I think I now recall why I might not have gotten them, since I love the blooms. A friend has them but only puts hers in containers. You are going to get me going over your cooking Zoey.

I have wondered about the size toad lily's, thanks for the truth. Do you think they get bigger over time?
ReplyDeleteZoey, That flower is small but so pretty. They would have stood out more if they had all lived, Right? The vine is nice too. Smiles, Susie
ReplyDeleteThat is a sweet LITTLE flower- I didn't realize how tiny it was in the first picture. I hate when I order something and it doesn't produce like I expect it, too. I am very disappointed in your Breck's order. I have always had good luck with them. Have a great night- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that flower is so tiny after looking at your first pictures. I guess that goes to show you good things come in small packages.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think the Toad Lily was that little when I saw it in the first photo. It's pretty though.
ReplyDeleteOmigosh, that flower looks huge at first, I was shocked to see how very tiny it actually is!! lol It's gorgeous, though, never seen anything like it. It's so maddening when you order bulbs that don't do anything, that's why I don't even bother anymore. I've actually bought bulbs from Walmart and they're all doing great! lol
ReplyDeleteFall is also definitely my favourite time of year and like you, look forward to baking and cooking all kinds of Fall goodies:-) xoxo
The Toad Lily is beautiful! Your spread of autumn yummies is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty unusual bloom-sorry it's so tiny.
ReplyDeleteI had that vine growing up to the shutter on the side of the house, but it was planted in nice soft dirt and it probably rained a bit more. I had the plants started by the Amish lady.
I do love autumn! I am an autumn baby too. The cooler temps, the smells-can't wait.
Hi Zoey,
ReplyDeleteI read so many blogs and was reading a comment that you left on mine. I thought to myself, "I haven't read any posts of Zoey's lately" I checked and found that several blogs disappeared from my favorite blog list....and your's was one of them. I have to read back to see what I have missed.
In regards to that toad lily...I didn't realize they were so tiny either. I thought they were a lot like the Blackberry Lily. Well, now I know...Have a nice weekend.

I have some toad lilies also and I almost pulled them this summer as their leaves fried in the heat. However, now they look pretty good and are ready to bloom.
ReplyDeleteThey are so small I am sure that I am the only one who can see them up close.
Eileen
I love autumn and all the goodies you shared too:)
