Going, Going....Soon to be Gone!

The tree company called today and they have us scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of next week.  I can't tell you how thrilled I will be when all of these trees are gone and all of the stumps are ground out.  I may even take a vacation day to savor the experience.
These two are in the front yard.

All of these are in my main perennial garden areas.

There are two more on the right side that you can't see here.  We will be removing the arbor and a lot of the remaining flowers this weekend so they don't get damaged.

My large Tropicana containers at work finally started to flower a few weeks ago:
I have also allowed the coleus to bloom (during the summer I keep the blooms pinched off). We have had a couple mornings of frost, but so far these tender tropicals have survived.  The overhang protects them a bit.

DH sold one of my favorite flower containers last week.  It turns out the old Tonka truck is worth about $50 to our local vintage shop buyer.  He was thrilled with the condition of this 1960's toy (very difficult to find them with the white rails):

I was happy to get rid of it, too.  We are trying to downsize our basement possessions.

Hope you have all been well and are enjoying the cooler weather--although today is supposed to be in the 80's here.  Two nights ago it was in the low 30's--today the 80's.  We never know from week to week what we will get!

  1. The weather has been all over the place, hasn't it? We've had 2 frosts as well. The damage was so willy-nilly....some of the really tender plants didn't get damaged, but then some of the tougher ones got hit. Ha--sounds like the whole summer around here--nothing makes sense anymore!
Hubby would have loved to buy that truck from you. He collects old toys. Yours looks in great shape.

    1. Hi Sue,
It sure has been a different summer. If I had known your hubby collected
Tonyka trucks, I would have given you first dibs!

  3. Be sure to post pictures of the "after" in your yard. I can remember the excitement when our unsightly trees were removed. It opened up the yard to sunshine.
    Your tropicals are beautiful.

    1. Hi Balisha,
It is definitely going to let the sunshine in. I am not sure if this is a good thing..............time will tell!

  4. I know exactly how you feel. When we moved into our home we had to have five trees removed. Three were dead and the other two were a danger to our home because of their height and so close to the house. Can't wait to see your place next time.

    1. Betty,
They had a cancellation and came on Friday. Half of the trees are now gone. At the moment I am not too thrilled about how things look....I hope I am more thrilled when they are all gone.

  5. That's great you are getting some trees down. Your evergreens (spruce?) really need to go. We have some like that. Our old apple tree went down a few months ago. We have to save up to get the driveway done and then some trees removed too. I bet it will make a big difference in your yard!
    The Cannas look pretty!

  7. It will be so nice for you to be able to get rid of some of those trees, although I'd sure hate to have to pay the bill for all of them to be removed. I can't imagine going through your treasure trove. Sounds like you have so much to try and get through.

  8. You will have a lot more sunlight in your yard and garden; will this mean changing the flowers you currently have?

    1. I think you are right, Beth. It should be fun (or frustrating) next spring designing the new gardens!
