Miscellaneous Weekend Musings

It was a beautiful summer weekend with temps in the mid 80's.  We spent a lot of time outside. My ditch lily garden is in full bloom.

This is just the spot over the rock wall where I toss all the ditch lilies I remove from my gardens.  I don't even plant them--just throw them over and let nature take its course.  We had a few guests coming over to tour the garden Sunday afternoon, so I made a quick bouquet for the front porch.
I have a gazillon of these lilies, so I can just go out and cut them by the armful.

Earlier this spring we removed two large areas of ditch lilies from the main gardens, causing a big bare area in front of this burning bush, so I added a bench.

DH and I worked together on  a most delicious dinner of grilled chicken breasts with a mango/blueberry chutney and grilled sweet potato spears.

Liberty, Freedom and Justice are growing fast. They are a week and a half old and just began climbing out of the nest.

Patti, The rain lilies you sent me overwintered just fine and the first one bloomed today.
Such a pretty pink color!

That's about it for my nice quiet weekend at home. Hope you all had an enjoyable weekend, too.

  1. This post has it all - ditch lilies, dinner, and baby birds! I'm amazed that you can just throw those lilies where you want them to grow and they bloom. Too funny! Your garden looks wonderful as usual.

    1. Thanks, LostRoses. It amazes me that the wild garden often looks better then the gardens that I sweat and slave over!

  3. Loving your Ditch lilies Zoey. A friend dug me some this week so I could put them in my woodland bed. I cannot wait now until they look as beautiful as your does here. Look at those hungry little birds. LOL!Their peaks take up their whole head when they are little. So cute!

    1. They should grow fast, Lona. I can't seem to kill them in my garden. I am quite happy with large drifts of them in the woodland area. I hope you are as happy with yours!

  5. I really love lilies! The common orange ones are just as wonderful in my eyes. I planted some down near a phone pole about 20 yrs ago. and there they still grow. I have 3 areas of Stargazers and they smell heavenly-easy to grow too!

  8. So glad your rain lilies made it!

Ditch lilies, so funny, the blacksmith was just commenting the other day how they were in every ditch! And we didn't even know that was a nickname for them.

    Happy Tuesday!

  11. I wondered if you were calling Day Lilies Ditch Lilies. My nursery lady Liz gave me the orange double lily and I dug a lot up this spring, and did not think of the ditch in back. I just threw in the trash maybe they will bloom in the dump. Thanks for visiting my blog. Your garden looks great.
