Garage Full of Plants

My garage is full of plants waiting to get planted in containers.

We are still getting frost every night.  I do think this is the latest that I have ever had to wait to plant my containers.  Most of these are for the 4 containers I do at work.

My perennial gardens are doing great, despite the cold weather.  All the rain has helped everything to be nice and green.

The alliums I planted last fall are opening.  They are much smaller than I expected, but at least there's a flower.

The large  Burning Bush I moved last fall is looking good on this side of the Arbor gardens.

I see a lot of iris buds this year, too.  It will be exciting in a week or so to see them all bloom.

I am hoping that the frost ends by the weekend.  I really need to get the planters done at work so I can get everything out of my garage!  I have had those plants in there for three weeks now.

How's everything doing in your garden this year?

  1. Your gardens look great, Zoey! Your beds are very well designed and I like the shape and the edging.

    1. Thanks, Beth. I like the lack of edging.
About twice a year, I hand edge it. I have not done that yet this year.

  2. Zoey- Your gardens are just so very beautiful. I love how you have laid out your beds and have the wonderful green spaces between them. It is a labor of love there- xo Diana

    1. The love is getting less each year. :) I have been gradually getting rid of the areas that are more work than love.

  3. Oh my goodness, your gardens are stunning! How I would love to have that much space to work with.

    1. Thanks, Stacey. What you see here is less than 50% of what I have planted.

  4. Wow, frost in June!
I'm still working on my yard, but can't do things as promptly here because of my back and knee.
Your gardens look so nice and sculpted.

    1. Hi Dianne. Frost is very common in June here. One year it snowed on June 20. No kidding...just flurries

    1. Thanks, MGD. I would love to get rid of some of those big trees. I could use a little more sun in many areas. But I just struggle along with what I have to work with.

  6. Your gardens are looking good. No frost here but I've run the furnace every day in June. It's been so chilly and wet that today is the first day I've gotten out in my gardens and weeded. Several of my perennials did not make it through the winter. My beautiful purple clematis didn't make it along with my 3 hardy mums, plus a few other things.

    1. Barb, I am so sorry about your clematis and mums. I have tried to grow clematis a few times, but it never survives for me. I would really love to have one climbing my largest arbor. Maybe it's time to try again...

  7. Zoey it has been very weird this year, total opposite of last year. We've had many frosts very late this year, but I think we are finally past them. Hopefully they stop for you soon.

  8. Hi Zoey, just beautiful - love your gardens. I hear you on the alliums. Last fall I finally splurged on a few of the huge Globemasters - I thought they'd look great mixed in with the smaller alliums. Not so much - they're really no bigger than their cousins. Maybe it will take a couple of years to gain their full size? Hope you get the plants out of your garage this weekend!

    1. Hi LostRoses,

      Nice to see you again!

Alliums are not reliable in my garden. The first year, they all seem to come up. Year 2 maybe 30% come back. I hope they like your garden better and grow and multiply like they should.

  9. I know can you believe this year. We are not in the frost area right now but lots of rain and cooler temperatures. Things are growing in slow motion.

  10. I hear you, Eileen! I don't mind cooler temps -- I HATE hot weather-- but I think we have had enough frost in June!

  11. Two weeks ago all my plants were in bloom and beautiful, but the 110° temps are starting to stress my desert shrubs. All things living are hold up in shady places until about 5:30 p.m. and then my birdbaths have lots of thirsty birds visiting. Your yard is beautiful as usual. I had to giggle about plants in the garage, if you leave a plant in the garage in Arizona it will be roasted in no time.

    1. What different climates we live in AZ. I only remember one time that it was 110 degrees here (I am happy about that!)

  12. It is cool here, but not near frost!! So far we haven't turned on the AC. Heck last night I even added an extra blanket to the bed, just so I could sleep with the windows open.

I finally got everything planted this week. I'm not into the the flowers so much.

My rain lilies are almost ready to burst open! Probably Friday or Saturday!

    1. My rain lilies survived, but they are not even near blooming yet. It's about 40 degrees this morning--heat wave. LOL
