Tiny Bouquets in Vintage Vases and a Big Contemporary Chandelier

It's been too hot to go outside and look at the flowers, so I decided to bring some inside.

What kind of a bouquet can you make with just four flowers?

Well, if you have one of these vintage lady vases, you can make a lovely little ditty like this:
It looks like a bustle! So fun!

This tiny little pitcher seemed perfect for some buddelia and black-eyed Susans.
Unfortunately it has a hairline crack and all the water leaked out. So I removed the flowers and put them in a ceramic chicken that I bought in 1989. So I guess I can call it a "vintage 80's" vase.

My last vintage vase is actually the first one I did tonight. It's a tiny bouquet to showcase the one yellow/gold Rembrandt dahlia that I have blooming. I just love the color of this dahlia and wanted to be able to admire it close up so I brought out my Knowles 'Modern Plaid' sugar bowl to use as a vase.

After all that vintage, I am now going to show you what I picked out for my new dining room chandelier. I really love this chandy!
I really do not like stark contemporary decorating, but I am growing fond of traditional with a contemporary flair. That is the look I will be shooting for as I replace all of my old furniture. It will be a gradual process. The contractor is supposed to start the middle of next week. He will be replacing all the windows, covering a cedar plank wall with new drywall, re-drywalling the dining room (remember when I removed that wallpaper only to discover that the last contractor skipped a few steps before applying it?), replacing all the plain Jane interior doors and hanging this chandy.

It will be an awful mess---I thought I was done with drywall dust----not looking forward to all the cleanup!

  1. Aw new windows. That will be so cool.
I love you vases and your flowers. I see some Coleus hiding. My daughter has decided that is what she wants in her bridal bouquet. WE talked to a flower designer and he can work it up for her. She will probably go with artificial ones.
Have a great Wednesday, it's raing here, 2 inches so far and more is coming.

  2. Hello dear Zoey, don't faint, it's finally me! lol What a long hot busy summer it's been but things seem to be slowing down now and I have more time for blogging and visiting. I've just caught up on your last few posts and as usual oohed and aahed over your flowers:-) Also enjoyed seeing the pictures from your trip to Paradise!

Your vintage vases are so gorgeous and I especially love that pink lady, the flowers really does make it look like a bustle! hehe

Sounds like your house will be turned upside down for a while but it will all be worth it once it's done. Getting new windows would thrill me, we're in such desperate need of getting ours changed. I'm hoping to get my living room flooring put in the near future. It's the only room left with carpet! When we do the living room, we also need to do the kitchen and hallway floor as I want it all the same. New living room sofa and chair will come next...I'm hoping to see a set at the auction that I like but so far nothing has caught my eye. I do love the chandy you decided on!!

Isn't it unbelievable how hot and humid it's been? I brought mom shopping and out for lunch today and I came back soaked right through. Thank goodness for the air conditioner in the house! lol xoxo

  3. I think your little flower arrangements are sweet. It was funny to see 'Knowles' in your post as that is my maiden name.
I've had my share of mess in this house over the last 24 yrs, so I can sympathize with you! It wouldn't hurt if they (or you) hang plastic in the doorways to cut down on the dust.
I find your chandelier very interesting and unique. I'd have to see how it lights the room too. I guess it's mostly for decoration? I think I told you I needed more light as I use my dining table for much more than dining.
Can't wait to see what your finished decor will look like!
