1 Cent Price???

Who sells a $40 cable for one cent? Is it just a mistake?

My Kodak camera USB cord has a short or something because I have not been able to pull pictures from my camera for the past week. Every time I plug it in, it kills the USB port (and my Internet access) and I have to restart the computer to reset the USB and internet access. I am not sure it's the cable. The camera itself could be toast, That's why I have not been posting. What's a post without a picture?

I bought my camera about two years ago at Staples. I went there today and they were no help at all. The young man said they could not order a new cable. What's up with that? I bought it locally instead of online so I could get service. I guess I may as well just buy online. If I can find a cable, they should be able to.

After I got home, I googled it and found that Amazon had the USB cable and it was 1 cent. Yes, 1 cent! I thought this must be a mistake, but I ordered it anyway, thinking that if it's really a few dollars more, that's O.K. because I need it. Who would bother to sell something for one cent? It's not even worth typing out the address label for one cent. When I finished the order it indeed came up as one cent + $7.49 Shipping. The total price charged to my credit card was $7.50. Now I am worried that it's some sort of scam. Does Amazon have scams?

Do you think I will really get this item?

  1. That's almost as good as "a dime and dozen". I wonder where that saying came from?

  2. Looks like the seller gets good ratings at least. I wonder if they really cost $42. I think a cable like that is a pretty common item and probably not worth more that $5. I'll ask Brian. I have a couple of them hanging out of the tower in the computer. I'll ask Brian about your camera dilemma too. Weren't you having trouble with it a few months back?
    Good luck!

  3. Chances are they just made their money through the S&H. Ebay does this a lot. People catch your attention with the low low price and then make S&H higher to make up the difference.

  4. I've never heard of any scams through Amazon so I'm sure you'll receive your cable. Boggles the mind, though, that they would sell those cables for 1 cent each. Maybe just trying to get more business that way. Hopefully you'll be able to download your pictures with the new cable and that it's not your camera causing the problem!! xoxo

  5. I don't believe that the shipping and handling, most likely a bulk rate, is 7.49. That is probably closer to the wholesale price, plus a tidy profit margin. It could also be a "knock off", of equal quality. After all it is a plastic coated bunch of wires. I feel secure that you purchased it on Amazon.

  6. We bought a cellphone charger for a few cents with a rather large shipping fee from Amazon, Zoey - worked okay so far.
Think they are overruns or something like that and the shipping helps make a profit?
