Most of the Tulips are Gone and Here Come the Poppies

I had a fast work day today.

I did all my usual morning tasks then about 11:00 a.m. the Big K and I went plant shopping and came back with all of this:

Shortly after noon I met with a bride and groom to go over all the final details of their upcoming wedding. As soon as they left, I ran home to get my gardening gloves, switched out the tall heels for some flat clogs, rolled up the pant leg hem and planted the four big containers at work.

At 3:00 p.m. I dug the dirt from my nails (somehow it accumulates even though I wear gloves) and attended a staff meeting.

At 3:45 p.m. I revised the contracts for the bride/groom and emailed them with an estimate of the final charges. By 4:00 p.m. I was home walking around my own gardens to see what's been happening the past few days.

And what's been happening is the poppies are bursting forth.
All of the poppies now blooming are in areas where I tried to kill them last summer with multiple applications of Round Up. I guess I should learn to like them because it looks like they are here to stay.

This area is in the backyard. I have been throwing my spring phlox (dame's rocket) behind the rockwalls and, as you can see here, it's blooming quite nicely. It looks best in the wild.

These parrots are the last tulips to bloom. I can't for the life of me remember their name right now.

Here is a view of most of my backyard. The big rockwall garden runs the entire length.

It always looks so nice right after DH cuts the grass. All the rain we have had lately helped with the nice green color.

  1. Wow-you certainly multi-task! The rock wall garden looks great! I've had poppies that just disappeared on me for no reason.
I had gloves on when I mulched but I still get the red all around my nails-lovely. K-Mart had $5.99 hanging baskets, basics like impatiens, begonias and petunias, but I couldn't resist the price. I bought Brian 21 tomato plants-he better get busy!

  3. I thought that the red and white tulips looked like the Flaming Parrots that I have, but once I saw the close-up they didn't look quite like them.

BTW - my old peach poppies reverted to orange!! But my usual orange poppies were almost red this year. Nice. I won't see flowers on the new ones until next year, I think.
