It's Weird how My Tastes Change

in everything from food to jewelry.

Yesterday I was going through some plastic storage boxes full of jewelry that I never wear and I came across this ring that my husband purchased for his mother while overseas in the V. war.

It's a cultured black pearl. His mother gave it to me years ago because she is not the type of person who would ever wear it.

I thought it was a nice gesture, and I tucked the ring away thinking I would never wear it either. To be perfectly blunt that thing was Ugly, with a capital "U"! I hoped my facial expression didn't give away when my true feelings when she opened that box.

Well, when I sipped it on yesterday, I thought it looked so contemporary, so sleek...just look at the high profile on this ring I I am loving it and am going to wear it to work today.

Then I came across this bracelet that some family member (I believe my dad's uncle) bought for my mother while in Greece over 40 years ago.
I have always loved this one, but it has a broken clasp. I really should get that fixed so I can wear and enjoy it.

I am happy to report that DH is feeling a lot better. It's amazing what one week can do!

He even felt good enough take an overnight trip on Saturday to spend some time with a few of my close relatives (Mom, Dad and favorite Aunt and Uncle).

We had a very nice Valentine's dinner. I had lobster tail, which I have not enjoyed in ions. I even tried a Lemon Drop Martini (vodka). I read a blog where the lady has Lemon Drop Martinis all the time and I have been wanting to try one. It was cold and frosty with a sugared rim so you got a touch of sweetness with each sip. Loved it! Now I have three drinks I like - Appletini, Cosmopolitan, and Lemon Drop--they are all vodka martinis.

We are hoping that DH will be able to drive again next week so I can turn in my chauffeur license. :)

  1. First of all, glad DH and you got to have a nice dinner with relatives. Yes! A week sure did make a difference. I love lobster tail!
Funny you should mention 'old' jewelry as I just worn some earrings I hadn't worn in a while on Valentine's Day. I don't know if I told you, but about in 1995, we were robbed, and they emptied out my jewelry armoire-including my class rings. So most of my stuff is from 1995 to now except for the stuff my father-in-law gave me that belonged to Bri's mom. I did have a small box with most of my better stuff (like small diamonds) that they didn't get-whew!
I've heard of lemon drops! Yum. Do try an Apricot Sour sometime. I had one the other night, but it didn't mix with the Vodka sauce on the pasta and I had severe reflux about 5 in the morning.

  2. Glad your hubby is feeling well enough to get out a bit..
My daughter's favorite drink is a French martini:
vodka, Chambord (raspberry liquor) and pineapple juice, with a lemon twist and sugared rim. It's on the sweet side too..
That ring is really unique. I've seen a lot of the larger pieces being worn lately.
    Have a great week..

  3. I wrote both of those drinks down and put them in my purse so I can remember to order one the next time I am trying to think of something I would like to try. They both sound like something I would like! I have Chambord at home (it's been in the cupboard for YEARS, so I may have to go buy some Vodka and try the French martini at home. It could be a great way to use up the Chambord!

  4. Glad to hear that DH is doing so well. I understand how taste change- I probably would have never worn that ring when I was younger either, but it looks very mystique and classy really. Love your blogs!

  5. Hello dear Zoey,

I'm finally back in the land of blogging, after having had Steve here for a few days I didn't get a chance to do any visiting so blame him! lol

Oh dear, so sorry to hear that your hubby got hurt by falling off the ladder...ouch! I'm sure you will be a great nurse to him but I know what you mean that it's going to be a long few weeks! lol Hopefully he will recover without the need of surgery.

Isn't it funny how our tastes change every few years? It's the same for me, so many things I didn't like years before and now I love...go figure. That ring is gorgeous in its own way and I bet you'll have gotten a lot of compliments about it at work. The vintage look in jewelry is really IN right now. xoxo
