Lollipops & Pinwheels

I have been in one of those organizing moods this week. Each night after work I have organized something--my food pantry closet on Monday, one big deep cupboard on Tuesday and another on Wednesday.

During my organizing tizzy, I came across the big lollipops I bought earlier in the year. If you remember, I bought 12 of them and put them away to use on my Christmas tree. I am planning a "Visions of Sugarplums" tree with lollipops, gingerbread men, sugar cookies -- a tree loaded with sweet treats.

Since my pink tree skirt fizzled, I decided to make something to go with the colorful lollipops. I thought pinwheels had the playful attitude required by a tree full of candy. I set to work last night making some trial double pinwheel blocks while I watched the news journalists salivate over each clip of governor Palin's botched interviews. Why anyone would put themselves through all of that for the VP slot is beyond me. I guess power mongers will do just about anything in the hopes of one day securing the thankless job of running this nation. Ah, but I digress, let's get back to the important things...like Christmas tree skirts.....

So far I am liking these. The lollipops will have a big bow tied at the top with long streamers that hang below the tree branches.

I do believe I will add some yellow and blue --I want all the lollipop colors to be in the tree skirt. Tonight I will try a few pinwheels in those colors. I will most likely make three or four different pinwheel blocks and combine them all into a tree skirt.

O.K. I think I have the beginnings of a plan here. You will have to stay tuned to see if it really comes to be--or if it, too, fizzles....

  1. Zoey..I like the plan for your tree skirt and the lollipops. I don't really want to think of decorating for Christmas yet, I'm still enjoying fall too much.
I'm still 'harvesting' from the garden. Made another batch of pickled beets yesterday and hot pepper jelly is next.

  2. Hi Zoey,
You're way ahead of me in your plans for decorating. I'm still trying to get all my fall stuff put out!!
I know that tree skirt (and tree) will be amazing. Can't wait to see it!

  3. Betty, Picled beets sound good! I miss the ones my Mom used to make. She made the best, with just the right amount of vinegar vs. sugar. I have never had hot pepper jelly. Sounds interesting.

Susie, I still have fall decorating to do, also. I just have to work on both in order to be in time for the next holiday.

  4. What a cute idea! I'm sure the lollipop tree skirt will be perfect! You ditched the other pretty one? Ahhh.
I've been decorating too. Need to see if I want to make anything for Christmas, especially gifts. It's going to be a budgeted holiday this year.
