OMG--the Things I do for a Blog Post!

I know I've been a little lax on posting lately.

But can you believe that I stuck my flip flop adorned foot this close to a snake just to have a picture for posting?

OMG, I get the jitters just looking at this picture! My foot had no protection whatsoever. Thank goodness the reptelian didn't lash out at me!

Blogging has made me a crazy woman!!

DH and I spent most of the day staining the white part of the deck. What a pain it is. DH got a ladder to do the top part of the lattice

while I gave my favorite piece of deck furniture a fresh coat of the same stain.

It's only 55 degrees out today, but with the sun shining, it's a perfect day for this hated chore. Now we only have to stain the floor and the deck will be ready to bring out all the plants--even if the weather isn't.

DH bought corn on the cob when he went grocery shopping early this morning. After I finished with the staining, I brought the corn out to the deck to shuck. It saves me having to clean up all those hairy things from the kitchen floor. He also bought some steaks to celebrate finishing this dreaded task. He is outside right now cooking them. I have the corn boiling and the onions/mushrooms sauteing.

It should be a good celebration dinner.

  1. Ooh I shudder when I see snakes. I'm glad you ended the post with some delish looking food!
You are going to have one spiffy deck this summer. We need to do our deck floor as well.
    Happy Mother's Day!

  3. Happy Mother's Day!
That is some big snake! I would have flipped my flip flop running away. Glad Priscilla pointed out it was 'just' a garter snake.
You and DH look really busy there. It's not paint, it's white stain?
Hope you had a nice dinner. : )

  4. Garter snake or not, that's too close for me, especially with a sandal that looks like him.

  5. Garter or cobra...I'd faint if either ran across my foot! LOL.

Dianne, it's a "solid" stain. Sort of between a stain and a paint. It's very watery.

  6. I'm sorry if I offended anybody with my "just a garter snake" comment. That wasn't my intent! I just remember how much my brothers liked finding garter snakes on Grandpa's farm. I just wish I could see Grandpa, the farm, my brothers, and garter snakes today. If a garter were to slither across my path today, I'd think it was my lucky day.

BTW, my sister J. really hates chipmunks. One ran across her foot one time and she screamed! No kidding.

  7. Oh, Priscilla, I wasn't offended. I know many people like garter snakes, but I am not one of them.

My own son owns a big boa...actually it's his girlfriend's, but he's been living in the same house as the reptile for three years. I would NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS even sleep under the same roof as one of those!!

Sometimes it's easy to take these comments the wrong way and I always give the benefit of the doubt.

So welcome and please continue to comment.

  8. Garter snakes are good for the garden, they eat mice and voles. And the occasional toad, but hey - for a reduction in mice and voles I'm happy to pay a toad tax.
