The Peonies are Blooming
I only have the white 'Festiva Maxima'.
This year three of the plants are blooming.
I noticed them when I was leaving for work this morning and ran out to take a picture in the very early morning light.
One stalk had escaped the tomato cage and was on the ground. I made a mental note to do something with it when I got home from work.
As soon as I was finished watering the containers, I went to remove the ground hugger. As I was walking down the deck steps with scissors in hand,
I noticed that the goutweed was already blooming. I snipped off all the blooms.
On the way to the peony I saw one measly little pink lupine. I cut it off, too. There was some dame's rocket that I did not want to go to seed, so it got snipped.
By the time I got to the peony on the ground, I had a fistful of blooms.
I stuck them all in the birdhouse vase.
Now I can enjoy them up close.
They're so beautiful! I've never grown them, but I hear they also have a wonderful fragrance. The birdhouse vase is really cute!!

My peonies started opening today too! It happens so fast! lol Your white ones are just gorgeous!! Leave it to you to end up with up a birdhouse vase full of flowers while weeding! hehe xox
ReplyDeletethey are so pretty, they seem to glow!
ReplyDeletePretty bouquet for free!
ReplyDeleteDo you know how to get more blooms on peonies? I guess feeding them? Do you?
That birdhouse vase is already proving its worth. That was a great idea! My white peonies bloom about two weeks after the pinks, and they don't last nearly as long either. I just noticed them the other day and they're already shattered! Fleeting beauty.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any in my garden, so thank you for sharing yours with us. They are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe casual picking of flowers came together perfectly. They look great in the birdhouse vase.
ReplyDeleteThose peony blooms are huge...and I love the white. I only have shades of pink and they've just begun to bloom...heavenly! Your bouquet turned out nicely.
ReplyDeleteThe iris are looking lovely. They're pretty with the chives. Nice idea to add chives to your baskets.
The alium Molly is lovely. My alium didn't do much at all this year. Perhaps it was too dry.
I'm finding it hard to fit posts in lately. Playing catch up in the gardens is taking all my time.
We need rain!
I hope the deer don't eat any more of your hostas, or anything else!
Happy gardening!
ooooh - I like your peonies - very pretty. Your bouquet is cool - great idea to bring that fragrance up on the deck!
