Imagine 6 Teenagers in Bright Green Gym Suits Splashing Around in This Water

I would have been one of those teens some thirty odd years ago. It was the last day of 9th grade and an unauthorized "skip day" from junior high school.

Now imagine looking up from that water to the very top of that hill and seeing your mother motioning for you to get your butt up there and it better be fast! Take a moment to let this sink in. You are a teenager and all the eyes in that water are looking up at the woman yelling on top of the hill. And that woman is YOUR. Mother.

The school had called my mother and told her that they thought we were on the island. My mother's no hiker, but she jumped right in her car and trotted all the way to the back of this island to find me. She was NOT happy.

It still makes me shudder in fear.

Mother, does this place look familiar? LOL.

  2. Hmmm....was it illegal to be there and how did the school know?
We had skip days only as seniors in high school. They can't do much when 350+ seniors are missing for the day. BTW-my 30th reunion is official-it's November in the same place where Bri and I had our wedding reception 23 yrs ago. Guess we'll go.

  3. Too funny! I would have been mortified, I'm sure - and we'd still be laughing about it all these years later!

  5. They used to have cut day for Seniors at the high school my children attended. They would go to a nearby lake to swim. They stopped having it when one of the seniors drowned at the lake. Very sad ending to what used to be a fun event. Glad yours was just mischief and no harm done..
