Jolly Old St. Nick

I am enjoying seeing some of my Santa collection that I have had packed away for the past few years.

Posted by Picasa

I put them in this curio cabinet in the dining room It's hard to get a decent photo because the walls are mirrors, but you get the idea.

I used a shawl for the tree skirt and I really like the effect. I think I bought that shawl when I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, which was in 1975! I never wear it as a shaw. I just use it to decorate. It's been on the dining table, on the coffee table and hanging from many china cabinets. I think it's one of the most versatile decorating props I own!

I have not done much tonight. I had about a 9-hour work day, came home and puttered a little with the three trees on top of the living room china cabinet, made popcorn for dinner (DH is not home tonight) and now I'm blogging. That's about all I feel like doing. The house is a disaster with boxes of decorations still sitting all over the family room. I have not put them away because I still have not decided if I am going to put up the main tree. I will decide this weekend.

Here are the three in the living room. I removed the blue lights and stuck some branches in them and some gold stars. Then I stuck a couple of gold deer up there. I still need to put some quilt batting around the trees to simulate snow.

I seem to be drawn to tree branches. I use them in all sorts of centerpieces and now even on Christmas trees. They were up there in a vase and when I took the vase down I had to find a place to put them so, I said, "why not?" and I shoved them in the trees. :) Not for everybody, but I like it.

  1. Zoey,
I like your use of branches! It's beautiful!
I hope you realize, even though you don't feel like you are doing a lot this year, you do 200 times what I do for decorating!!
We still don't have the ornaments on our tree.
    Shopping is done, though!!

  2. I enjoyed visiting your blog. Like you, I love decorating for Christmas when the mood strikes me, but sometimes it's overwhelming, especially after a long day at work! I decorated my main tree this week and loved posting about it, too. I like your branches, very nice!

  3. Looking lovely! I like the shawl effect as it is very Victorian looking.
The Santas look handsome in the curio cabinet. I hadn't used my Snowbabies for a few years myself-I never had the right spot for them.
OT-are you getting pestered about switching your blog over? Let me know when you do. I heard some bad stories about beta.
My brother lives near Ft Laudy-been there myself about 4.5 yrs ago.

  4. Zoey, love the shawl. I love the branches in your little trees even more, that's a great effect!

I think we're living parallel lives a couple thousand miles apart. I worked a 9 hour day today, had popcorn for dinner, and the house is a disaster from half-finished decorating. Oh well, there's always the weekend (I say that every week and nothing really changes!)

Maybe when you retire you can winter in Ft. Lauderdale(sp) we have friends that go down every year after Christmas and don't come back until April. I am so jealous.

  8. Your Santas are just gorgeous and I'm glad you put them on display, what a shame to keep them in boxes the last few years..tsk tsk! lol What a brilliant idea for the shawl too...I had one like that but I gave it away years ago...now I wish I hadn't! I love what you do with the branches and sticking them in the trees!
