It's Beginning to look like Christmas at my House

This Christmas decorating is wearing me out. I've moved 2 sofas and 2 china cabinets (with help from DH) and hauled numerous boxes up from the basement. I worked a good 7 hours today and did not even do the main tree. My body is a tad achey and I have not even had time to read a single blog.

I must say I had a tough time this year. I never have much of a plan. I just start opening boxes of stuff and sticking things on the tree and usually it just flows. Not this year. I just could not get anything to look good. Quite a few times I felt like putting it all away and forgetting it. But I kept plodding along and eventually, for better or worse, I made it this far:

See that small tree way in back on top of the china cabinet? See if you can guess what's on it. I will show you at the end of this post. This year I brought out my Christmas village houses that I have not used in at least 5 years. I don't set up a village, I just stick them in a few places. There is one on each side of the little tree way in the back.

So far I 've done three of those small trees on top of cabinets. This one is in the dining room on top of a curio cabinet filled with some of my Santa collection (which I also have not used in the past 5 years).

This year I did the dining room in a very lighthearted theme with gingerbread men, blue jean stockings, lollipops and star-shaped cookies.

I see two of those gingerbread men that are too close together. It's amazing how much digital pics help you to really see things.

So did you figure out what was on that tree?

How about allium!
I had to break the stems shorter to use them on the tree, so now they won't be any good for a tall vase. I can always get more next year. See the stems I broke off sticking out the top?

  1. Love this! You should send this photo to the Brandywine River Museum as they do mostly natural themed trees.

  2. No wonder your body is achey, look at all the work you did! It looks darling. Having to move all the furniture is a problem with Xmas decorating. I had to move a loveseat out of of the living room into the computer room to make way for the tree, and in order to do that I had to get rid of an old, non-working console TV that's been taking up valuable space. I shoved it out the door for a special pickup from the trash company ($20). Wasn't sure I could manage it by myself but those icy sidewalks came in handy as it rolled along slick as a whistle. Go take an aspirin!

  3. Looks really nice Zoey. I know what you mean about dragging all those boxes out, this year I'm going through everything and taking a lot of stuff to Goodwill. It's just not as much fun as it used to be.

  4. Yes I did figure it out. So that is what the spray painting was all about. It looks wonderful.

Oh, and I love your Monday shot, too.

  5. Hi everyone. Thanks for the kind words.

lostroses, I have one of those big old console TV's in my basement. I need to toss it out. I never thought of using the icy driveway to help move the monster. LOL. It is amazing what we do to make space for Christmas decorating, isn't it?
