Ladies Petticoat Columbine Has Been Planted

If you are a long-time reader of my blog, you know that my big pet peeve is posted macros without showing how the plant actually looks in the landscape.

As I did yesterday with the columbine.

That pic gives you no idea of the actual size of this plant nor how it looks incorporated into a garden. That is why we are so often unhappy with plants we order from big nursery catalogs--they know the macro trick makes their plant so much better than it is.

When I got home from work this afternoon, I planted the columbines. They are small flowers and really have no presence on their own. I felt they needed to be near a big rock to give them some interest and that is where I planted them.

You see three in this picture. I also planted one in front of a different large rock about 4 feet away from these.

I think another purple/pink is just what I need in the rockwall area. :)

  1. I'm guilty of macro photos, I'm afraid. I think the irises I have are so pretty close up. I do think I had photos of around the yard last year when things are blooming nice. I'll get some more up soon. I swear you have ESP or something as I was just thinking about taking too many close-ups.
The columbine looks pretty in your rock bed. It will spread, so it will fill in that area a bit.

  2. LOL, dianne.
I swear, I was not talking about any one in particular!
I am hoping it will spread and make a nice little clump.

  3. Yeah, i am guilty of having too many macros too! But also when you just start a garden, the whole scheme doesn't look that good -- so you need the macros to make you feel better, i think. I will try to put more wider shots in...

  4. Yep, I love to take macro shots as well. It's a good point you're making. I love to see the whole garden and yard too...I'll try to post more of the broader views. I've actually been planning on it, just don't have enough time lately. How do you find the time to post so often and keep such a beautiful big garden Zoey?
