since I've had a toothache.
I have gone to the dentist every six months ever since I got teeth.
Now in my old age, I am experiencing receding gums and whatever else grinding one's teeth while sleeping causes.
For the past three weeks I have been having daily toothache pain with extreme sensitivity to hot/cold. OMG, if hot coffee touches the two areas affected, I go through the ceiling...same with anything cold. I have been experiencing sensitivity for years, but now it is EXTREME. I have not been chewing on that side at all.
I have no cavities, so it must be exposed nerves or something. I called the dentist today and made an appointment for next Tuesday. I am afraid he will be sending me to some periodontal specialist for some gruesome invasive (and expensive) treatment.
I just hope I can wait until Tuesday. It seems to be getting worse each day. When it gets really bad, I take a couple of aspirin and that seems to help a little bit for a few hours.
I can already tell, that I am not going to like getting old. The teeth are starting to go, what will be next?
Well that sucks! Synsodyne toothpaste might help. (I think that how it is spelled). That's what my hygenist told me. When the gum recedes they get more sensitive. Hope you are feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteI have very touchy gums myself. I have fillings near the gumline on about 4-5 bottom teeth. I would suggest the sensitive toothpaste too. I always judge pain on whether or not it keeps me awake at night. Maybe you need a filling or two in that area. Try not brushing the tender spots either.
ReplyDeleteThere's a good rinse too-blue stuff with peroxide in it. I also have a natural stuff but it tastes wicked.
ReplyDeleteI have used sensodyne and it did help but mine wasn't a gum issue, just sensitive teeth. I do hope you find relief. That is a nerve-racking pain.
ReplyDeleteYikes I know what you are going through. Do you a toothpaste made for sensitive teeth and I have discovered that Colgate and Crest both are a lot cheaper and work as well as Sensodyne. I have a gum problem and it these work, in fact I can now drink cold water again without fear.
ReplyDeleteOh Zoey! I'm right there with you. The day before yesterday I went to the dentist for my checkup and cleaning and told him I felt like my body is rejecting my back molars. He's setting me up with a gum specialist.
ReplyDeleteI've been using toothpaste for sensitive teeth for many years (don't like the taste of Sensodyne, but the others are fine). Now I'm adding a fluoride rinse. I can't even believe I'm doing that but I'm so desperate. My teeth are in perfect shape but I have a little gum recession in spots.
I hope you get some relief soon! You have things to do, I know ;-)
Thanks everyone. I have the sensitive toothpaste from Colgate (it's a prescription). I am afraid it is something more serious than the sensitivity problems I have had for years.
ReplyDeleteThis is an intense ache...very, very bad ache!
Sabine, so nice to hear from you! This pain is indeed in the back molars...there is a pressure as well as the ache. I do hope you don't get the same thing.
I never realized how bad gum recession can get until now!
Dianne, I have two of those fillings, also. I have had them for about 8 years and they did help the sensitiviy. It is one of the teeth with the filling that is giving me my current problem. Maybe it has progressed to the point of no return? I don't know. I just know it is something much worse than anything I have ever had before.
