Does anyone know what this plant is? I am pretty sure it is a heliopsis. It seems that somewhere I saw it called "perennial sunflower", but I am not sure. I got it years ago from my sister-in-law, Annette. It has been known since as "Annette's Flower". I do really like it. It grows kind of like a shrub and as long as it gets enough sunlight, it blooms until frost. I would really like to know its proper name.
Heliopsis helianthoides 'Incomparabilis'

Might be what you have?

Thanks, Jen. I checked them both which led to about a half hour surfing from google images (I get lost in cyberspace when I google an image!). It does look like what I have.
ReplyDeleteOKay, just to confuse you, I think it is Helianthus multiflorus 'Flore Pleno.' See http://www.bluestoneperennials.com/b/bp/HEMFS.html
ReplyDeleteI have grown both opsis and anthus, and the heliopsis blooms earlier--it's all done now--and the leaves just look more like the helianthus to me. The helianthus is supposedly hardy to Zone 5, and in some winters my garden is closer to Zone 4, so I have lost it. It was actually closer to pure yellow than the heliopsis 'Summer Sun' that I still grow, and as I remember it bloomed at the same time as the asters, but I could be remembering wrong.
Ok, Kathy, now I am confused - lol. I think you are correct. Their pic looks just like my plant and it does bloom late (it is just now beginning to bloom). The yellow color is a very rich golden yellow. I copied the info from Bluestone and saved it in my gardening file. Thank you for your detective work!
