Ever since I saw the snake last week, I do not go into the garden areas unless I have thick high shoes. These babies are serious gardening footwear - LOL.

  1. Not sure I could walk in those shoes. lol what a sight that would be. I can see it now "This just in... woman found in garden tangled up in hose...'big shoes' number 1 suspect."

Shorts and bare feet for me. Way too hot for anything else.

  2. Bare feet, Kerry? You must not have to walk through any tall plants with dark unknown areas underneath! LOL

  6. Sorry bout that last one. I can't spell.

Critters don't bother me. I've never been bitten by a snake and had plenty of chances. One year I was gathering wild blackberries (with shoes on as they were thorny) and I stepped out into a small clearing. I heard the rattle of a rattler. Never did see the snake but I very slowly stepped back into the vines where I came from and she/he calmed down. I just didn't go over in that area any more to pick. Most snakes will only bite when cornered. For the others, if they really want me, shoes or not they will get me so I might as well be comfortable till then.

  7. Hi Zoey,

Came from Sandy's sight. Love this. I'm a total barefoot gardener. However, earlier this summer, one slithered across my foot, and it had to be two feet long. I screamed so high, only the dogs could hear. I am still reconsidering, but I have also memorized where they live. So it might be barefeet still.

  9. I always start out with shoes but end up barefoot. The shoes are handy when I run the mower and weed eater and I have only seen 1 snake here and that was last summer, thankfully.
