And the Answer Is...............(drum roll)

Rose Campion (lychnis coronaria). Both Tarracotta and Kathy got it correct. Way to go girls!

Girl Gone Gardening didn't get the correct answer, but she gave it a try and in the process gave us some very interesting (and possibly useful) information about mullein. I do believe mullein was also used for candle wicks in ancient times. Go read her comment--I so love to learn new information about plants.

Lychnis Coronaria is actually an herb. It will bloom for a long time if you keep it deadheaded. Do let some seeds develop before fall though, so you can get babies for future years. This is a short-lived plant, but once you have it, it will probably keep reseeding.

  6. Zoey, thanks for your comments on my new blog. I have more questions. I'm having trouble installing a blogroll. Do you use Blogrolling? I thought I was cutting and pasting their code but it didn't "take." Also, what does it mean that you're powered by Blogwise, but you have a blogspot URL? And is there another way of writing you I should use, rather than commenting?
While I'm at it, I LOVE your site and your garden. I'm a huge fan of sedum myself and will be posting photos of my little potted collection. Something I do with Autumn Joy, which I have at the curb, is to spray-paint them in the winter - nice shades of blues and purples. Do you think that's sacreligious of me, or maybe just tacky? I look forward to seeing your sedums in bloom. Meanwhile I'm enjoying your grill. Susan

  8. Sylvana, I will have to go to your site to see your tamarix.I have never even heard of that one!
Takoma, It took me months to get a blogroll. I don't know how to install it with code. I went to Blogwise and downloaded something called Bloglines. Bloglines automatically puts whomever I subscribe to on the blogroll. I am not even sure exactly how I did it. I just kept plugging along, following whatever directions they had and I was quite excited when it worked!
No, I don't think painting Sedum AJ is sacreligious. I have painted it gold myself. I did not leave it in the ground though. I let it dry and cut it down and saved them to use on my Christmas tree!! I have even painted dried weeds to use for tree filler. I took pics of painting them...maybe later I will post them in case anyone else needs Christmas tree filler! LOL
